Pakistan Fumble against Australian Bowling Attack at Adelaide Oval in 3rd Quarter-Final

wc trophyNew Delhi, Friday, March 20 – As like the first two quarter-finals between Sri Lanka & South Africa and Bangladesh & India, eyes were struck on today’s contest between Australia and Pakistan. Misbah-ul-Haq, the skipper of Pakistan, won the toss and chose to bat first against the host in the knockout stage. The men in green caps have not so easily entered into the league of top 8 teams. Had the Ireland beat them in the final league match, their journey in the ongoing World Cup would have ended then and there.

But Pakistan failed to utilize the opportunity in the early start of the game.  The opener Ahmed Shehzad and wicketkeeper-batsman Sarfraz Ahmed were out for 5 and 10 runs, respectively. Haris Sohail, though made attempt to bring some stability to shaky innings of Pakistan, succumbed to Mitchell Johnson. He fell 9 runs short to pocket a fifty.

Glenn Maxwell brought the play of captain Misbah to an end post he contributed 34 runs in his team’s total and endeavored to hit a biggie to increase the run rate. Middle-order batsmen Umar Akmal, Sohaib Maqsood and Shahid Afridi were sent back to the pavilion correspondingly at 20, 29 and 23 runs. Wahab Riaz also started slow but Mitchell Starc instigation after bowling a beautiful delivery did good for Pakistan. Riaz later on sent the ball into the fences twice. But the spark did not continue for long as Starc got his wicket in 43rd over. The new batsman Sohail Khan dismissed at 4.

At present, Ehsan Adil and Rahat Ali are batting at 6 and 2, respectively, letting Pak touch figure of 200. With 4 overs more to be bowled, Pakistan have lost 9 wickets. Lack of temperament made them be at the back foot right now. Australians have gained the grip in match. Not only Australia and Pakistan fans but also Indian supporters are keenly looking forward to the final outcome as the winner at Adelaide Oval on Friday will contest against Dhoni’s boys in semi-final, which is slated to take place in Sydney on Thursday, March 26.
