Australia Begin Sydney Test on Strong Note; David Warner Hits Ton

India testNew Delhi, Wednesday, January 7 – Australia and India met each other for the first time in New Year on Tuesday, January 6, to contest against the final Test match at Sydney Cricket Ground. India tour of Australia hasn’t been as impressive as it could have been had the ‘men in blue’ performed at their level best in the previously concluded Test matches hosted at Adelaide, Brisbane and Melbourne.

The beginning of 4th Test is the fresh start for an Indian cricketer as well who will now impart his duties as a captain given that Mahendra Singh Dhoni announced retirement on the Day 5 of Melbourne Test. Duties on the shoulders of Virat Kohli increased. The ratio of expectations has augmented. Cricket fans want India to bounce back in the game by showing outstanding show on the field. The start can’t be said good for the talented Delhi born boy as he lost the toss and stand-in Australian skipper Steve Smith elected to bat first. His decision turned absolutely right since the opening pair made their team to stay on the strong side. 200 run partnership between Chris Rogers and David Warner of 270 balls made the duo to rank at no. 9 in the chart of highest opening partnership.

It wouldn’t be wrong to say that Australia openers put huge stress on the rivals. Bowlers strove for wickets but failed. In the session 2, Warner struck a ton to remember. He has been striking in the current series. Classy boundaries played pivotal role in keeping the pace of scoring runs a bit up all the time and showed hallmark of the confident player.

When India were struggling for wickets, a beautiful delivery by Ravichandran Ashwin gave his teammates a breakthrough, which was being sought by them right from the commencement of the contest. Warner had to leave the crease at 101.  Dismissal of Chris Rogers, who lent a hand to the Aussies be steer clear of unwanted pressure, was heartbreaking for him as the 37-year-old had no answer for an amazing bowling by Mohammed Shami. He fell short of 5 runs to pocket a ton yet 95 runs scored post facing 160 balls. Despite the fact that Rogers missed hitting a well-deserved hundred, he did his bit in an outstanding manner.

Their departure after giving Australia a solid foothold on Day 1 of Sydney Test match let Shane Watson and captain Smith hold the fort. Bowlers were beleaguered. Lot more is expected to come from their end. Smith is batting at the score of 82 runs and Watson remains on the crease at 61. Australia have accumulated 348 runs so for on the loss of 2 wickets in 90 overs. India somehow seemed to be on the back foot for the reason that the host seemed determined to win the tournament and pay tribute to Phillip Hughes, whose untimely demise during late November after being struck on neck by a bouncer in a domestic match shattered the entire cricket fraternity.

In spite of being emotionally weak, the Australian cricketers proved nothing is impossible if positive outcome is expected at the end and inputs are poured to achieve the same. Though Melbourne Test ended in a draw and Smith was criticized for declaring the innings a little bit late, most of the home players outshined. 26-year-old Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane and Murali Vijay were successful in playing remarkable knocks but less contribution of runs from middle and lower order was the key cause behind their failure. Cheteshwar Pujara needs to do the things for what he has been considered over other players. Suresh Raina is in the team. The all-rounder has the capacity to do well with both bat and ball. Bhuvneshwar Kumar can turn the situation in the favor of India.
