Audience All Set to Witness Nail-Biting Semi-final between South Africa & New Zealand in Auckland

de villerNew Delhi, Tuesday, March 24 – When the powerhouses South Africa, New Zealand, India and Australia were through to the semi-finals last week, cricket fans geared up to see an interesting fight between bat and ball. Since top teams have qualified into the next round, wherein the defeated party will be out from the game instantly, the two matches scheduled between India & Australia and Kiwis & Proteas, which is in progress at present, will grab eyeballs.

Team India has been unbeaten so far in the World Cup tournament and so is New Zealand. The hopes are genuinely soaring from both the squads. Despite not winning all the matches, South Africa and Australia are robust and have got the potential to win any game even when conditions are not in favor. The brilliance of these two teams can be understood from the fact that they sent home Sri Lanka and Pakistan, respectively, in the first and third quarter-finals. Logging victory in important competition is never easy but those who keep the calm as long as possible and believe in changing things with their talent get success in the last part and answer opponents with their skills.

The way Proteas brought Sri Lankan attack to an end was never expected in view of the fact that the former never succumbs so easily in the big tournaments. On the other hand, Pakistan’s stint was finished by the Aussies at Adelaide Oval, Adelaide, on Friday, March 20. In a game where excited players weren’t hesitant of teasing opponents through actions and expressions, it was Australia that registered victory over Pakistan. Now, Australian fans want their team to continue the same growth in the upcoming match as well where they have to face India. Not to forget that pressure of soaring hopes is neither less on Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his teammates. However, the positive side is Captain Cool is aware of the Australian’s weak and strong points.

Certainly, strategies will be made accordingly. India were criticized a lot prior to the cricket carnival started. Many people ignored the potential of Indian bowlers, who have so far done an extremely great job. India have got 70 wickets in all 7 matches. This is the record what none never ever imagined, particularly from Indian bowling lineup given that bowlers were struggling with poor form and missing the pace. But later they gain confidence and answered everyone who lost all hope in them with terrific performance in the field. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that Sydney Cricket Ground, Sydney, is going to be jam-packed on Thursday, March 26, as supporters would not let go the chance of witnessing a huge event without cheering their teams.

As of today’s contest is concerned, South Africa are facing the real heat at Eden Park, Auckland. They elected to bat first post winning the toss in the first World Cup semi-final in opposition to New Zealand. Situation of the men in green caps can’t be called good as three of their top-order batsmen have been already been sent back to the dressing room. After 28 overs, 122 runs have been put on the score board. All eyes are struck on AB de Villiers, who is batting at 5, along with Faf du Plessis, who pocketed 44 runs of 76 balls.

The graph of tension will inch up if wickets are lost at this stage. South Africa need a partnership of 50 to 100 runs. If a few shots are struck at this point, pressure will shift towards New Zealand all of a sudden. No wonder if the same happens as SA skipper Villiers is on the crease. He is one of the most destructive hitters in 50-50 format match. If the 31-year-old right-handed batsman gets the success in hitting biggies and sending the ball into the fences, together with singles, South Africa will be able to set humongous target for the Kiwis to chase.  This is very much possible on Tuesday thanks to more exposure of the players to Twenty20 matches. However, taking no notice of brilliant fielding by Brendon McCullum’s boys today isn’t possible. It is interesting to notice which group rises as a victor, books a ticket to grand finale and plays against India vs. Australia winner on Sunday. Let us wait and watch what happens further.
